Maxi Dunn has returned with her second album, "The Neglected Gambit", a beautiful collection of songs from the heart. The album takes off with a powerful start with the title track, a rocker with a lot of soul and emotion in the music and lyrics. We then head into pop territory in with the upbeat sound of "Why Do I Want You". Another song with a lot of soul and emotion, definitely one of my favorites on the album. "So What" is sweet and sassy, almost whimsical - which suits the theme of the song quite nicely. And then we follow with one of the sweetest tunes on the album."Baby It's So Wonderful". a blissful sound for a pretty love song. The mood then changes with "Tangled Tree", where we head into a serious ballad, with a sophisticated, contemporary feel. Next, "You Took the Sunshine From My Heart', is a powerful song of raw emotion and sensuality. You can't help but smile when hearing the next track, "Firecracker V Mr Flash Rocket', a cheeky little ditty full of clever metaphor, and brilliantly performed with all sorts of cute surprises in the vocal arrangement. Another favorite of mine is "Make it Better". Optimistic and happy, this song just shimmers like diamonds. It's a song that describes letting go of the past, healing from a hurtful situation and looking ahead to a bright future. You can feel the strength in the vibe of the music. After that it's time to batten down the hatches for "Weather Warning" - another song with brilliant use of metaphor, turning to the elements this time, possibly to brace oneself against approaching stormy situations, likening raindrops to tears, and grey skies to encapsulate the entire vibe. Fantastic lyrics and performance. After weathering the storm, we then enter a calm but sombre, sobering tale of past regrets, with "Messed Up". Where to turn now? Following up, a new dawn breaks, with apologetic expressions and desires of making a new start, letting bygones be bygones shine through in "Will You Forgive Me?" And last but not least, the chilling "Winter Ghost", a very dark and painful song that again makes fantastic use of metaphor to describe a situation that despite has all the appearance of being real, was perhaps nothing but an ethereal experience of which remnants continue to haunt..
The 12 songs on this album are beautifully performed, showcasing Maxi's brilliant songwriting and gorgeous vocals. Kudos also to Pete Hackett for his instrumental work and production on this stellar album. Highly recommended.

Hi Maxi
Just wishing you the best of luck with the new album and I'll be getting my details to you ASAP for a copy. If it's anything like 'Welcome to Soonville' then it'll be a pleasure to liten to.
It's good to know that there are singers and musicians out there who are still doing it for the right reasons.
